Telecommunications Equipment Type Approval
 
Q:  When we apply for type approval, what kind of documents do you need?
A:  The following documents are required. 
· User Manual (English)
· Frequency band and EIRP specifications if applicable
· Test reports and type approval certificates from known international entities.
   
Q:  Are there any special requirements regarding the user manual like the need to be in national language?
A: The manual must be in English language and should mainly contain all telecom specifications.
   
Q:  In general what telecoms standards are you adopting?
A:  We normally use International standards, but regarding frequency spectrum we may differ from other countries in allocating some frequencies.
   
Q:  Do you accept international test reports? 
A:  Yes, this one of the requirements for our type approval.
   
Q:  Do you perform any local tests for the application? If you perform, what kind of samples you need? 
A:  Tests are rarely required, we inform the applicant in case we need a sample.
   
Q:  Does type approval involves any charge?
A:  Yes, the amount will depend on the type of equipment and availability of type approval references from other countries.
   
Q:  Should the certificate be included in the manual?
A:  There is no specific requirement.
   
Q:  Do you have any safety or type approval marks which must be put on the product?
A:  No specific marking required for the Bahrain market, but internationally agreed safety marks and type approval labels, as applicable, must be present.
   
Q:  Do we need to put User Notices in the manual, like warnings, etc?
A:  There are no specific requirements, you can put whatever serves users.
   
Q:  If I need to import Cordless Telephones for my own use or for sale, what is required?
A:  You need to be aware about the following:
· Required specifications:
    o Analogue cordless telephones - frequency band 43MHz to 49MHz and max power output of 300mW.
    o DECT digital cordless phones – frequency band 1,880MHz to 1,900MHz.
· The cordless telephone will not be allowed if the above information is not available.
· Cordless Telephones with external antennas are not allowed.
· If the number of sets is more than 2, then there will be a charge.
   
Q: Is there a need for type approval for keyless car doors or similar remote control devices using radio frequency or infra red?
A:  Such devices fall outside the current TRA responsibilities. The Directorate of Wireless Licensing, Frequency and Management (DWL, F&M - Tel: +973 17 715111) is the organisation responsible for providing approval for these devices.
