Local-loop unbundling LLU Workshop
Following the issuance of the LLU Order on 5 May 2011, TRA hosted a workshop with the industry on LLU. The workshop aimed at providing operators with a better understanding of LLU and its accompanying services and how can it allow them to offer alternative broadband and fixed services using the Batelco copper network infrastructure.
 
   
Bottom-up Cost Model Workshop
The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) hosted recently a presentation with the industry on TRA’s consultation document on the development and use of bottom-up fixed access, fixed core and mobile networks cost models in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The presentation aimed at helping the industry to prepare its responses to the consultation document. Representatives from about 10 operators were present.

Launch of TRA art II
The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) launched its 2nd annual art competition, linking it to “online safety” with the aim to inspire safe and responsible use and behavior of the internet, Children and youth are the best to develop messages and ways to teach each other safe responsible use of the internet.

TRA Launches the Results of the State of the Nation Review for Online Safety
Under the Patronage of H. E. Sheikh Ahmed bin Atiyatallah Al Khalifa, Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Minister Responsible for the Telecommunications Sector, on 25 October 2010 The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of the Kingdom of Bahrain (TRA) will launch the State of the Nation Review into internet and digital media safety awareness and risk assessment, “Online Safety: A Road Map for the Future”, at which the recommendations designed to move towards a safer online environment for all will be unveiled.

TRA Participates at the Arab Regulators’ Network 7th General Annual Meeting in Sudan
The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has participated at the 7th annual meeting of the Arab Regulators’ network held under the presidency of the Sudani regulator on 23 June 2010. Bahrain delegation was represented by Mr. Basil Al Arrayed TRA’s Director of Communications and Consumer Affairs and Mr. Adel Darwish TRA’s Manager of Market Competition.

TRA Announces the Winners of its first Art Competition
The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority has announced the winners of the 2009/2010 TRA ART Competition. The competition, which was launched in October 2009, was designed to allow young people in the Kingdom to express through art how telecommunications and information and communications technology (ICT) can be used in our everyday lives. Students were encouraged to consider through their art how ICT could amongst other things be used to create a greener and more inclusive society or how ICT could to shorten the distances between people or how ICT could be used to foster safer use of the internet.

TRA concluded Bahrain Campaign for Online Safety Conference
Under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Ahmed bin Atiyatallah Al Khalifa, Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Minister responsible for the Telecommunications sector, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) of the Kingdom of Bahrain in partnership with the Family Online Safety Institute (FOSI), will be holding the Gulf’s first online safety conference from the 26th to the 28th of April, 2010 at the Ritz Carlton hotel, Kingdom of Bahrain.

The internet has become an essential part of 21 century life; we shop, talk and live our lives in a virtual world. Social Networking sites like “Facebook” and “Twitter” are bringing users together from across the globe, bringing the young closer to their friends and allowing users to share experiences with friends they might only if ever, meet once or twice in a life time.

TRA Shares its Experience at the Broadband Global Summit
Under the patronage of H.E. Sh. Ahmed bin Ateyatalla Al Khalifa, Minister of Cabinet Affaires, minister responsible for the telecommunications sector, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of the Kingdom of Bahrain (TRA) had its two days conference activities under the title of “Achieving Ubiquitous Broadband Networks”.

“Bahrain ICT sector is one of the world’s greatest success stories with mobile penetration 139% a year ago, over 80% of household with a computer; over half of the population using the internet and fixed broadband penetration is one of the highest in the region.”
 

 

   
 
Workshop on Radiation from Mobile Mast
On 14 May 2009, TRA organized a seminar on the radiation emitted from  mobile masts where representatives from the Municipalities, BDF, Ministry of Interior, Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, Telecommunications companies and the Commission responsible for the environment gathered to hear from three professors on the important issue of signals emitted from masts of mobile and other telecommunications technologies.

Arab Regulator Network presidency
On 23 May 2007, TRA Bahrain hosted the forth annual meeting for the Arab Regulators Network (ARNET) for a period of two days during which TRA Bahrain took over the presidency of the ARNET for a period of one year.

During the meeting extensive discussion have been conducted on 15 common projects, among them three where selected as priorities and decided to form working groups to reach the desired outcome from these priorities.
 

 
 
UK Communications Management Association (CMA) Presentation
On 2 May 2007, the Chairman of UK Communications Management Association (CMA) Ms. Carolyn Kimber presented the UK experience in how consumers can bring their efforts together to get the best from their telecoms service providers in terms of solutions and value for money.

Licensees - CEOs’ meeting
On 22 January 2007, TRA hosted a meeting for all licensees to discuss the issues of concern telecom operators are facing. During the meeting the participants highlighted a number of issues as priority for the industry. Two main issues emerged as top priorities: the need to increase competitive availability of international connectivity and facilitation of access to end customers. The participants touched on what actions they consider to be a priority for TRA to facilitate competition in the market.
