20th ITS European Regional Conference “Telecommunications in the Broader Society: Maximising the Benefits and Reducing the Risks”, which at the same time will be the 1st ITS Europe – Middle East – North Africa (Europe-MENA) Regional Conference, will be held on 26-28 October 2009 in Bahrain.

It will be hosted by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of the Kingdom of Bahrain (TRA). The International Telecommunications Society (ITS), TRA and the University of Strathclyde will join forces to organise this important event.

This even will mark the expansion of the ITS activities to the previously underserved, but increasingly important region of the Middle East and North Africa.

The conference intends to open possibilities to discuss the issues, which are not only internal to the telecommunications sector, but also relate to the interaction between this sector and more general socio-economic environment (including general economic growth, international trade, addressing the needs of low income people or people with special needs, links with environmental issues etc.).
