Control of Telecom Mast Emissions

  • About TRA campaign

Electromagnetic emissions of any telecom base stations have been proven to be un-harmful by World Health Organization (WHO) and International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The main conclusion from the WHO reviews is that Electromagnetic Field (EMF) exposures that are below the limits recommended in the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) guidelines do not appear to have any known consequence on health. ICNIRP has established the threshold levels for exposure to EMF for occupational and public areas. These thresholds were brought into force by the “Order” (Order No 4, 2009) of the Public Commission for the Protection of Marine Resources, Environment and Wildfire of the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of the Kingdom of Bahrain (TRA) obliged all public telecommunication operators of Bahrain to limit the emissions of their radio base stations’ emissions in public and occupational areas below the internationally acceptable levels. To enforce the Order, TRA will regularly measure the emissions in occupational and public areas of Bahrain located in close proximity to radio base stations of public operators and make the results of the measurement available to general public via its website.

    Measurement and ICNIRP threshold levels

In accordance to ICNIRP the Order of Public Commission for the Protection of Marine Resources, Environment and Wildfire of the Kingdom of Bahrain, emissions of public operators’ base stations do not harm humans if they do not exceed the thresholds shown in the graphic.

    Safety Measurements

The Communications and Information Technology Commission of Saudi Arabia issued an awareness publication that explains the facts and misconceptions about radio waves from mobile phones and wireless base stations, The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of the Kingdom of Bahrain would like to express its profound gratitude to Communications and Information Technology of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for granting us the permit to use the content of the awareness publication “Facts and Misconceptions about Radio Waves Emitted From Mobile Phones and Wireless Base Stations”, the awareness publication can be found through the link below:
