Notification regarding Licensee’s obligations following the introduction of VAT in the Kingdom of Bahrain

Following the receipt of several enquiries in relation to the abovementioned subject, the Authority issues this notification to all Licensees to clarify its position regarding the introduction of VAT in consumer contracts.Licensees are reminded that, by virtue of Article 17 of the Consumer Protection Regulation, they are obliged to provide – and make clear to their subscribers about the existence of – an Advance Notice Period before making any contractual changes (this includes the introduction of VAT)

Following the receipt of several enquiries in relation to the abovementioned subject, the Authority issues this notification to all Licensees to clarify its position regarding the introduction of VAT in consumer contracts.

Licensees are reminded that, by virtue of Article 17 of the Consumer Protection Regulation, they are obliged to provide – and make clear to their subscribers about the existence of – an Advance Notice Period before making any contractual changes (this includes the introduction of VAT) to allow them to withdraw from their contracts without any termination charges within thirty (30) days of receipt of such notice.

Please be informed that this notification is being issued on an exceptional basis. For the avoidance of doubt, it remains the duty of all Licensees to ensure compliance with their license conditions and all legal instruments published by the Authority.
